If our job teaches us anything, it's that we don't know what the next President's going to face. And if we choose someone with vision, someone with guts, someone with gravitas; who's connected to other people's lives, and cares about making them better. If we choose someone to inspire us, then we'll be able to face what comes our way and achieve things we can't imagine yet. Instead of telling people who's the most qualified, instead of telling people who's got the better ideas, let's make it obvious.
Let’s go, Giants, let’s go! *clapclap*

I found out today that I won’t make it into SFSU’s fall semester in 2004. I won’t have enough transferable units to make it to the November 10th meeting with the SFSU counselor and gain admission in time. Instead, I’m going to try for spring 2005, by adding 10 units over summer session. So, my plan has changed dramatically since last quarter:
Prior to Spring 2003: 10 transferable units.
Spring 2003 Japanese 3 5 units MAJOR History 17A 5 units REQ 2 Philosophy 25 4 units Area D - Subtotal: 24 transferable units Fall 2003 Japanese 4 5 units MAJOR Japanese 13A 3 units MAJOR Economics 1A 5 units MINOR (Area D) - Subtotal: 37 transferable units. Winter 2004 Japanese 5 5 units MAJOR English 1A 5 units REQ 1 (Area A) Speech 1A 4.5 units Area A Math 10 5 units Area B - Subtotal: 56.5 transferable units Spring 2004 Japanese 6 5 units MAJOR English 1B 5 units Area A Biology 10+10L 5 units Area C Political Science 1 5 units Area D - Subtotal: 76.5 transferable units
As you can see, 76.5 is 7.5 units shy.
Summer 2004 History 17B 5 units Area D Astronomy 10+10L 5 units Area B - Subtotal: 86.5 transferable units
After Summer Session, I’m eligible for spring admission/registration. But since I’m not going to be able to go to school until spring anyway, I might as well take one more quarter at Foothill while I can (cheaper tuition), and get in as many lower division/general education course as I can.
Fall 2004 Music 3A 5 units Area B Economics 1B 5 units MINOR (Area D) Human Performance 48 3 units Area E Japanese 13B 3 units MAJOR - Subtotal: 97.5 transferable units
Much better. So now I can enter SFSU having completed all my GE requirements and concentrate on my major/minor studies. I feel tons better having a plan based on more concrete information.
As I read through my economics text this afternoon, waiting for
Today’s my last day of being on the payroll at eBay, though my badge and access have already been revoked from the system and I cannot enter the building anyway. But I thought it important to note for posterity that this is it. I had until today to find another position within the company, and to be honest, I will not work with any company who mistreats people as such. Money’s not quite that valuable to me to compromise my own sense of self-worth over.
Free tickets to the Santa Clara University women’s volleyball home opener allowed me to go see the SCU Broncos versus the University of Hawai’i Rainbows. It was a best-of-five exchange, and the Rainbows pretty much owned the Broncos in three matches, 30-25, 30-27, and 30-21. I’ve always been a fan of volleyball, ever since I was a high school student. My pal Jason George and I used to follow the Leigh volleyball team to all their away games, particularly when they would play Mitty High. Mitty girls were hot! Of course, I have to use the past tense; my cousins go to Mitty, now, and they’re all girls. I feel particularly defensive of them, now, and just shake my head.
My cousin Lexie is a sophomore at SCU, and she plays for the volleyball team. She’s a very good player, but her team just couldn’t keep a decent defense against the Hawai’i girls. By the way, the Hawai’i girls are freaking tall! Three of them are above six foot, one was six foot five. These girls were this defensive wall at the net, slapping and dunking balls back onto the Bronco side of the net and scoring kills left and right. And #3 for Hawai’i was just killing the Broncos left and right with her power spikes. Good game, though. I enjoyed myself.
Back to homework, now…
Your meme, should you choose to accept it, is to rank the following bands in order, from couldn’t live without to couldn’t care less. To add value to this process, you must also add one band to the list, and remove one band from the list, before passing the meme on (including these instructions).
the brilliant green (added)
The Eagles
The Rolling Stones
Fleetwood Mac
Queen
The Who
The Doors
Paul Simon
U2
Kenna
Aerosmith
matchbox twenty (dropped)
This game rules me. That is all.
Deja vu: I had an entry named this last quarter…
I had a math test this morning, which I studied for last night by doing my homework at the last minute, including the chapter one review test in the book. I have to hand it to my math professor from last quarter, her suggestion about doing the math 101 review process sure helped,as the first question dealt directly with one of the concepts I had forgotten. The second question was directly lifted from the notes from yesterday, so that ruled all… I nailed that one down pretty hard.
At the end of the first week, I’m just shaking my head. A few problems that need addressing as far as logistics go.
1) figure out how to better budget my time so I can get some decent sleep.
2) figure out how to add a few physical activities so I can lose 5.5 pounds a week.
3) figure out what kind of final project I want to do for Japanese 4.
I don’t think that’s too much of a tall order for this quarter, so far. And as far as the job is concerned, I’m totally okay with it, now. Looks like eBay’s being very generous about the severence package, apparently there’s a possibility of stocks also being offered to me, which is cool because I can ride all of that out to SFSU, if necessary. I talked with some of the other guys who got laid off and they’re talking about taking long vacations for a while, so hey. I’m just going to go back to school and get my damn degree and then do something with it. I am putting out some minor feelers about another job, but I’m not going to stress over it. School is nice and low stress enough for me to handle right now. ![]()
This weekend looks like it’ll be a little busy. JTAF2 meeting in the city, my cousin’s NCAA volleyball game at SCU, and I need to study for next week’s math test, Japanese homework for conversation, blah blah blah… ugh. Two days off just isn’t enough anymore ![]()
Taking Japanese 4 and Japanese 13A is actually working out a little better than I thought. It’s like taking Japanese 4 twice, but in a good way. Japanese 4 concentrates on grammatical mechanics of the language, and 13A gives me the conversation practice I so desperately need. None of my current friends speak the language (at least, who’re available to me on a daily basis), and so I don’t really get the opportunity to speak the language. My listening abilities are pretty good, though sometimes I feel like a fucking Bynar. I listen, but I have to go over what was said in my head a few times before I realize the context and the vocabulary I’m missing. Given the context clues, I’m usually 80% dead-on in understanding what was said. It’s too bad I won’t be able to take 13B next quarter.
I’m officially overloaded next quarter with 20 units. Why? I’m trying to transfer to SFSU for Fall 2004. That means I need a) 84 transferable units, b) a minimum 2.0 GPA (I currently have a 2.994), c) complete Area A and Math requirements. Area A of the Intermural General Education Transfer Cirriculum is English 1A, English 1B, and Public Speaking. So, for Winter Quarter, my lineup’ll be Japanese 5, Math 10 (the first transferable unit Math course, and the last one I’ll ever take), English 1A, and Speech 1A. This is so I can take Japanese 6, English 1B, History 17B, and Music 3A in the Spring, which is another 20 unit quarter. Music 3A is covering my Arts/Letters requirement. I’ve actually already taken 3A at West Valley, but it was not transferable. Stupid WVC >_< So far, the highest unit content in a quarter has been 19, and I ended up with a 3.0 GPA there, so maybe 20 isn’t so bad… I don’t know.
Last night, after class at 9:35, Dave, Dan and I decided to drive separately to meet up at a Denny’s somewhere along the El Camino Real, except for the fact that I drove from Mountain View to Atherton along the El Camino, only to find no such Denny’s existed. So either I went the wrong way down El Camino from San Antonio Road, or I got seriously ditched. Given the fact that I see these two clowns on a semi-daily basis, they would know better than to send me on a wild-goose chase for an hour driving damn near to Redwood City. I was tired by then and I needed to go home and sleep. Update: After talking with Dan, they didn’t ditch me. I went the wrong way down El Camino Real. Of course, had Dave told me it was in Mt. View, and not Palo Alto, I might have actually arrived at my destination. He said it was in Palo Alto.
Last night I went to Gamestop to pick up my copy of NHL 2004 I had preordered. While there, DK (Dan King) goaded me into signing up for the NHL 2004 tournament on the 4th of October. The grand prize winner gets a jersey from the Sharks and a trip for two to New York City to participate in the national tourney. I guess box seats wasn’t enough, eh?
Anyway, today’s classes finally kicked into high gear, especially math. I was trying my best to keep pace with math class and all the calculator training they put me through. How to use the TI-83 Plus, how to get it to do graphs, how to get it to do tricks, make you coffee, do a little jig… and we’re still not done. Though, I do need to get my homework done sometime tonightbefore I go to sleep… it might be due tomorrow morning bright and early.
