The building I work in got evacuated at around 17:30 tonight, and I was literally answering phones right by the San Francisco Bay (which is the evacuation point). Not that I don’t mind the view, but it was getting darker and darker, and colder and colder. I love San Francisco. The gas monitors in the basement went off, stating there was a gas leak, and it automatically summoned the Fire Department and the Police Department. They came through and evac’ed everyone, and I had to grab the cell phone and start forwarding calls and then go down the stairwells (because the elevators were shut down) and outside. Then I had to break from the group, and go up to the second floor to make sure the rest of the ops crew knew, and it turns out they didn’t. So, I told them to grab what they could and get the fuck out of there. I guess the security team didn’t do a thorough enough sweep, because they just thought everyone was going home at the same time.
Anyway, we got back in at around 18:00, and my little field trip was over.
