If our job teaches us anything, it's that we don't know what the next President's going to face. And if we choose someone with vision, someone with guts, someone with gravitas; who's connected to other people's lives, and cares about making them better. If we choose someone to inspire us, then we'll be able to face what comes our way and achieve things we can't imagine yet. Instead of telling people who's the most qualified, instead of telling people who's got the better ideas, let's make it obvious.
If there is at least one person in your life whom you consider a close friend, and whom you would not have met without the Internet, post this sentence in your journal.
Thanks in part to Dana over at WNOHGB, I have a fifth comic I will be reading. If you’re an EverQuest addict such as myself, you will get some serious enjoyment out of this drama-comedy. ![]()

I told you a while ago that my attention drifted from The Tides of Time and War to rereading The Quarterdeck Breed. I had written an exploratory short story based on what happened to the crew of the Agamemnon after Captain Grayum retired, and I had my first chapter written. After boucing it off my editor, I ended up with a ten chapter outline of where the story is to go, so maybe there’ll be some more movement on this one. I’ll return to Tides eventually. I have to finish it before the game opens.

A sting operation against a publishing house that claims to be a non-vanity press operation got stinged with a horrid book submission from the authors over at Writer Beware. Hilarity ensues.
For those of you who don’t know, I am set to exclusive on AIM and ICQ. Back in the day, AIM and ICQ were getting deluged with spam advertisements that forced me to set myself exclusive on both mediums, and even on MSN and Yahoo. This means that only people on my contact list can see me, chat with me, etc. This led to some problems when I started doing major projects and people wanted to get in touch with me, but it works out when I explain why I do what I do.
As a matter of chance, this morning I went unexclusive, as I was waiting for someone to contact me via ICQ, and a very old and dear friend of mine from back when I used to rp Pern every damn day contacted me and asked me how I was doing. I got a serious blast from the past during that conversation, and I also gathered that she’d been attempting to get a hold of me for over a week using my ICQ number without result until that morning. Needless to say, I boggled at the way it worked out, and I was glad she got a hold of me. We shared a major bond with one another back then, and it was really cool to play catch up and revisit that. I added her in and went back to exclusive mode, since I’d accomplished what I needed to that morning. The cool part is, she might be coming to the west coast to visit, and she wants to hang out while she’s in the Bay Area. I’m looking forward to that.
Maybe I’ll take her to see a Giants game.
In other news, I have booked my flight to Philadelphia for February 12 and returning on the 26th. I will be in the city of Brotherly Love for two weeks, and I’m really hoping to relax and just get away from the local area for a while. Also, because this will be the first time I’ve ever been to Philly, with all its rich American history, I want to visit Independence Hall and see the Liberty Bell. Then maybe the Rocky statue.
I don’t have set plans for my trip out there, but it’ll get figured out as I get closer and closer to February.
Also, looks like I’m going to go see Robert Schimmel at the San Jose Improv on the night of the 10th! He returned earlier than usual; he’s typically a May headliner. Doesn’t matter, because I’m going to go and laugh my ass off. Schimmel is awesome, and for those of you who’re local to San Jose, head over to their website and see if you can’t score from tickets. Catch a dinner show, if you can, because the restuarant in the Improv is awesome and worth it!

Minor progress. I’m ashamed to admit that I got distracted by reading and IMing, and y’know… working. I might have something new for you to read that’s related to The Quarterdeck Breed, though. Not the E-ship, but more like one of the ships I already wrote about gets a longer and more in-depth story. ![]()
Since my book is about to end its print run, I’ve gone ahead and put the short stories back online for everyone to read.
Communiques
The Face of the Smiling Vulcan
The Mis-Adventures of January McKenna( I will be updating this one with the new chapters. )
Of course, there’s also The Quarterdeck Breed. TQB will have an E ship soonish, I think. I’ve spec’ed out stories all the way out to the J ship ![]()
Please feel free to leave reviews on the site. Thanks.

You can ask me 5 questions, anything. NO matter how personal, private or random - I have to answer them honestly. In return, you have to post this message in your own LJ and you have to answer the questions that are asked to you.
I’m under obligation.

Serious progress made today, including a new character I hadn’t planned on exposing. Reworked some more plot points in rethinking the new character and ended up restructuring the whole damned thing. Jeez. Oh, also had to lower the overall word count from 50k to 40k due to the definition of a novella.
Fanfiction.net is being a pain and not linking the chapters to each other… so here they are with direct links:

Still writing, and hoping to have another progress report by the time I head to sleep. ![]()
