Merry Christmas

Posted by jetblack on December 25th, 2005

Since I’ve been asked for what I want at various times by people, I wanted to post this real quick on Christmas. I’ve received gifts already from people, and I’m grateful… but to those who have not yet and were planning to, please don’t. :)
Instead, I hope you would consider making a donation to either the American Red Cross or your local homeless shelter on my behalf. I’m unemployed, and while I think getting gifts is awesome, it would be better to slip the Red Cross a $5 or a $10, if you can spare it for me. Normally, I would make the donation myself, but I can’t afford it… and they keep saying on the news how they’re falling short of their goals due to hurricane assistance provided earlier in the year.

Thanks and have a safe holiday season.

Going Black

John Spencer died today. :( I can hardly beleive it.

I’m turning my background black until further notice. Thanks for the years of entertainment, John.

I’ll miss you.

Meme Alert: 10 Things

Posted by jetblack on December 9th, 2005

List ten things you want to say to people but know you never will.
- Don’t say who they are.
- Disable comments.
- Never discuss it again.

I can’t do this meme. I’m not passive-aggressive, and if I had something to say, I’ll just come out and say it to your face without fear. All the apologies have already been said, and all the last words have already been spoken. If you’re here on this list, it’s because you’re a friend, and when I make my cuts, you’ll know exactly why I did it. I don’t play mind games with my friends, and if you know me enough to know that, then let this serve as nothing more than a reminder.

If you feel otherwise, or you’ve got a problem with me, then use the comment function below to tell me so, and we’ll deal with it head-on. They’re screened, just in case you need privacy. But don’t follow the advice of venting and then never discussing it again… how exactly does that solve the problem?

All I want for Christmas is…

Meme Alert: And yet it’s so appropriate…

Posted by jetblack on December 5th, 2005

Dear Santa…

Dear Santa,

This year I’ve been busy!

In June I bought porn for (10 points). In February and I donated clothes to the needy (11 points). In May I bought porn for (-10 points). In March I put money in ’s expired parking meter (14 points). In November I ruled Iran as a kind and benevolent dictator (700 points).

Overall, I’ve been nice (725 points). For Christmas I deserve a toy train!

Sincerely,
jetblack

Knightfall: Update

Posted by jetblack on December 4th, 2005

I had to play a little catchup with the December Goliath Challenge over on EvoWriters, so I wrote over 10,000 words on the day. Not my very best, but getting close to it. Knightfall and Second Star both got some work done on them. Knightfall got a completed chapter eight and a fleshed out chapter nine (which is still being worked on). Second Star’s first story is halfway done. Here’s Knightfall’s current word count:

The Second Star Freight Company: Update

Posted by jetblack on December 2nd, 2005

Wow, there’s hardly been any movement on this one, eh? I joined Evolution Writers a couple of days ago, and so far I really like it. There’s a whole mess of tools you can use to organize your works in progress, and get critiques, as well as see if your main character is a solid three-dimensional person.

This month I’m doing the December David and Goliath challenge, where you choose a words-per-day total goal every day of the month. I went for 3,000 words a day, to see if I could keep it up. Last night, I added 3,173 words to The Second Star Freight Company, bringing my total to 8,333 of 20,000 words for the Natasha short story.

Going Backward, Going Forward

Posted by jetblack on December 1st, 2005

So, I got called this morning by a recruiter. He had a position for a NOC person at a company in San Jose and he ran me through a technical screen and I passed (of course). Then he told me where the opportunity was… it’s at eBay. Holy crap. I don’t even know if my old manager over there would even give my resume a second look or not, but we’ll see what happens when the recruiter calls me back to see if they’ll even give me the time of day. Apparently my old boss is still the boss of the NOC, so there was no chance of getting a completely fair shake. My departure over there was marked with anger and disappointment… so this is going to be a little odd to say the very least.

Still, eBay was so much fun to work at. SO much fun. It would rock to work there again… even if it means I’ll have to move back down to San Jose to do it. At least it’s better than no job.
