I’m really looking forward to it.
I’m not sure if you guys are aware, but there’s a House Resolution (H.R. 5252 [PDF]) which would allow major internet service providers (AT&T, Verizon, Comcast) to determine which sites you get to see. It passed the house and is now within the Senate, awaiting a scheduled vote on the issue. www.SaveTheInternet.com is actively tracking the issue, and has a list of senators who’ve announced their support for or against the concept of Net Neutrality, which the Resolution is currently threatening to do away with. SaveTheInternet.com is stating clearly that it’s nothing short of suppressing the First Amendment rights of all online users, in allowing those ISPs to prevent their customers to visit any sites not on their approved list (which anyone can buy their way onto) with legal backing from Congress.
In direct opposition to HR 5252 is the bipartisan bill S. 2917 (PDF) which would preserve those freedoms we’ve been enjoying so far. I’m really glad that both senators from California are in support of Net Neutrality, and I’ve sent Senator Boxer an email saying so just this morning.
If you can take a moment to do so, please contact your senators and let them know how you feel. Millions of dollars are being poured into lobbying against Net Neutrality by AT&T, Verizon, and Comcast, and the only way to outshout that kind of money is to keep hammering your senators until they realize that the lobby is so diametrically opposed to the will of the people. As we’re all bloggers, surely we don’t want all of this to become a complete waste of time, so we all have some sort of stake in this, right? In addition, this coud have long-term ramifications as former non-Internet mediums are now being delivered by broadband access, such as telephone and television access.
I’m giving anyone and everyone permission to link to this post so that people can read the text of both bills. We have to spread the word on this to as many people as possible.
Thanks.

But only for one week. If you’re like Tap, who might need their articles for posterity, then I suggest you head over and nab the html copies (click on view for the little window) and then save to disk if you should need them for your portfolio. I’ll also be happy to act as reference for anyone who needs one.
Yeah, it’s official. I can’t solve the database problems, and I don’t know why it constantly craps out every 2-4 days. I think maybe Joomla hammers the ever-loving shit out of it, and let’s face it, I was only paying $3 a month for their service and I guess I shouldn’t have expected too much. I considered moving the database from godaddy to otaking.org, but the versions are incompatible (godaddy uses 4.0 and otaking is using 3.23)… and it would take a pro db admin to revert it back to an earlier version of mysql.
I want to thank those of you who were on board from the beginning… it was a lot of fun while it was up and I appreciate your efforts. I just wish that something this stupid wasn’t the cause of it. I wish I could afford the $100 a month to get the deluxe co-location server with them with the premium database software or something.
I guess for now, I’ll use it as my writing site or something, because we’re paid through for a whole year. :/
The latest Sorkin creation, Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, was released today by NBC as a DVD. I’m looking for it, and if you have Netflix, then put the DVD in your queue. It won’t disappoint you.
There shall be two Studio 60 fans in my household, I don’t care if I have to buy a cat and make it watch with me.
This is about my writing. Feel free to ignore this just like everything else I post about.
So, for the rest of the year, I’ve got my work cut out for me. Until the end of this month, it’s all about finishing Knight Commander. With the recent visit of Abbie and the changes/edits made to the book itself, there’s still about 15,000 words that need to be added in order to get to 90k (typical sci-fi novel length). Add to that, Knightfall (the third book), is now broken up into two, as well, since we were well on our way to hitting the 150k mark on it. Decided to do a second trilogy with the sidekick character, Teri Fisher. So now we have:
The Melissa Knight trilogy:
The Teri Fisher trilogy:
That’s going to cover six books about the Civil War, and then move right into the Cold War that occurs right afterward.
The writing schedule is as follows:
August 1-31: Knight Commander
September 1-October 31: Knight on Hope Station (currently 34k, needs to be 90k)
November 1-30: Untitled #33 (NaNoWriMo) (minimum 50k written)
December 1-31: I didn’t get this far… but probably finishing Knightfall to 90k.
Oh, and then it’s 2007… crap, time is flying fast.
Thanks for all the words of encouragement.
