Severence Pay

Sometimes, being laid off has its perquisites. I got my severence pay last night, and deposited the boon of cash in my account so hold me for a while. At least I’ll be okay for the quarter (I hope). I’ll also be applying for unemployment, and hopefully getting it for attending school full time. My dad talked me through it last time I got laid off, and for six months, I’ll have a thousand dollars a month coming to me because I already paid it through the nose over the course of the past ten years. I’ve applied for unemployment before, the last time, but I never actually got any money from them because I started working at Gamestop shortly after and my paycheck outweighed the money I would’ve received from the EDD office by 50%. More money always good, but I think the amount of work you have to put into a retail store, or rather, some of the expectations the management puts you through might be a little much considering how close you are to minimum wage (I was making $8.50/hr). Maybe $8.50 an hour is a lot, but when compared to my salary, it’s not much. It barely paid the bills and I still had to borrow money from my parents to cover rent for a month or two, even with the tremendous amount of overtime I worked during the five months, and I was only paying $550 a month to exist in that house.

I pay my school fees, bills, and rent, now. Let’s see what happens.

Oh, and the Giants lost, today. That’s truly why I’m depressed right now. šŸ™
