My Wife Left Me…

There’s just no other way to say it, I guess.  She took off to Hawai’i with another man, and I’m sitting here in my apartment, all alone.

I guess I should mention that the other man is her father and she’ll be back Saturday, but I’ll bet you I got you to click on the link anyway, right?  Feel free to punish me in the comments.  I’ll take my beatings like a man.

First, we upgraded to 2.5.1.  I hope you’ve all upgraded your WordPress installations.

Anyway, I have the place to myself this week and already it’s pretty damned weird to not have her around here.  I wish I could’ve gone to Hawai’i, too, but I’d already taken too much time off from work in the past thirty days to get away with a whole week off like that.  Plus, I’d just started the grave shift, so it would have sucked to suddenly take a week off on the on-call guy and make him suffer through a week of painful middle of the night calls because I wasn’t there to catch them.

Speaking of… it’s been going pretty good on the grave shift so far.  I’ve been keeping to a strict schedule of sleep and exercise that my doctor recommended.  Unfortunately, it also means that on the weekends, I have to keep to it as well.  I only get two days off and it’s just not enough to right myself to a day schedule and then prepare for a night schedule in forty-eight hours.  This makes participating in activities a little more difficult, and it always seems to result in people being pissed off at me for not going to parties or visiting.  There are exceptions, of course, but not very many.  Plus, everyone likes to get together at noon, which is thirty minutes after I go to bed.  What?  No more evening get-togethers anymore?

On the subject of evening get-togethers… I think it sucks that I keep having to cancel the monthly parties because people have better other things to do.  By the way, on May 10th, we’re celebrating Julia’s 30th birthday.  I sincerely hope that people will show up for it, because we’re holding it at San Jose Municipal Stadium this year and it should be a lot of fun.  Get a hold of me if you want to go.

I leave you all with this little gem: Hard Candy.  Rent or buy the DVD; you will not be disappointed.

Weird Saturday…

Before I begin, I’d like to thank everyone who did not show tonight for making the first Dorama Night of 2006 an utter failure. The next time I hear people telling me “you need to host Dorama Night again,” I’m going to shove my fucking fist through their mouths and rip out their spinal columns. Seriously. Every single person who told me that last time stood me up tonight. So fuck it. If you want dorama night, then host it yourselves. I have better things to do with my money and my time.

Todd and Jody capped off a three-day adventure in moving and have moved all of their things out. The only evidence of Todd ever having lived there are the divots in the carpet where his furniture used to be. Oh, and the man-sized ticks and chiggers asking where he went. Don’t worry, Todd… Ralph and boys are on their way over, so I hope you’ve got room 😉 Just kidding. Though half of me wants to drop a bug bomb in there. I already moved my (our) bed in there and so now we’re using Todd’s room as our bedroom and my room is being converted into a kind of den/office. I would love to track down a couple of recliners and put them in front of my entertainment center so if Robert comes over, we can just sit and play games or watch TV, no problem.

The living room’s going to need to be seriously cleaned… and reorganized. That huge entertainment center that Todd brought with him apparently survived just one more move… so now there’s a huge empty space where it used to be int he living room, and I’m going to take the opportunity to get a new (smaller) one and put it in a different part of the room. The ratty couch is going to be tossed and I think Julia’s bringing down her green couch from the city as well as some other furniture she has already. But still, I want recliners, even if it is remeniscent of Friends 😛 Just like in the dream, baby. Though, I may move the simple entertainment center from in my room out to the living room and get a better one for the office. Something that has a case inside so I’m not worried about shit falling off due to it being stacked precariously. Which reminds me that I need more shelving in here. I do not have enough shelf space for my shit by a long shot. Hmm…

I keep looking at a calendar and I can’t beleive my wedding’s only thirty-five days from now. Wow.

In other news, baseball’s back. I’ve been catching games of the World Baseball Classic on ESPN2, and listening to Giants spring training games on KNBR. I missed Jon and Flemm calling games. 🙂 Now, all I need is Kruk and Kuip on the TV and I’m all set.

Lastly, work’s been pretty damn good. I have more projects than I have digits, but I’m being paid well and my 30-day evaluation was nothing but positive. Fucking A.

Dorama Night!

For those local to me, feel free to click and invite yourself if you’re free on that night. We go until all of us die or collapse, and I’d like to see if I could get these going again. Please please please RSVP, because I need to know how much dead-chicken-in-a-pan to cook. 🙂

EverQuest, Shomuni, and RFW… oh my…

Todd’s brother Jody stayed over at our place for the last three days. He brought his computer and uplinked to our bridge router and was pretty much taking full advantage of the 786 line with us. With Todd no longer working and generally being a lazy bum for the first time in over two years, they’ve been playing nonstop EverQuest for the past seventy-two hours. I join in when I can, since I still have my characters and I like to play a lot. I just haven’t had much of a chance until we got the broadband connection to put any serious effort into it. I finally got an enchanter out of lowbie-dom and closer to level ten. I haven’t really played any of my lowbie characters enough to notice all of the changes they made to the newbie/lowbie areas within Greater Faydark. Christ, a newbie can get his ass handed to him in nothing flat if he’s not too careful. I’m gunning to bring my enchanter to level twelve or better by next Friday or so.

While I’ve been sleeping, I’ve been watching Shomuni by osmosis, you could say. That is, I put Shomuni on loop (all 11 episodes I have) and just fall asleep watching it. This is typically a bad idea, as I tend to want to stay awake and watch it. Over the course of three nights, I’ve been half-watching Shomuni’s first and second episodes, and I’ve still yet to actually complete them. Shomuni is a really funny series, from what I’ve seen so far. It has Esumi Makiko in it, who is just a hottie that demands people kill for her (in a figurative sense). She’s tall, has this amazing long black hair and an icy cold stare that would chill a head of lettuce at a mean distance of three miles. In other words, she’s a babe. Any Japanese dorama with Esumi Makiko in it is pretty much going to be a winner with me. Of her other doramas that I’ve seen, I think Over Time is her best one.

Radio Free WNOHGB is back online and broadcasting goodness 24/7 again. I kept hearing small complaints and gripes about its closure back in July a little too much and decided that it was worth it to me to bring it back. If only to have a cool set to listen to at work, and one that I can share with other people on the game and apparently in other countries. In the last twenty four hours, Japanese listeners have posted bigger numbers than American listeners, which is kind of surprising since all of my spoken content is in English and not Japanese, but of course, they’re not listening to me speak, they’re listening to all the anime and J-Pop music I’ve been able to get my grubby hands on. Unfortunately, or fortunately if your perspective dictates, I’m going to wipe RFW clean and start reprogramming it for a more stricter format of all Japanese music. I have far too much domestic crap on there, taking up valuable MP3 space. Not to mention that it can get a little repetitive of listening to same openings and endings and other music, so I’m going to locate as much game (Final Fantasy, Suikoden, Chrono Trigger, Xenogears) music as possible to upload and start playing. We’ll see how the reformatting goes in the coming week when I’m done with work for four days.
