Meme Alert: 10 Things

List ten things you want to say to people but know you never will.
– Don’t say who they are.
– Disable comments.
– Never discuss it again.

I can’t do this meme. I’m not passive-aggressive, and if I had something to say, I’ll just come out and say it to your face without fear. All the apologies have already been said, and all the last words have already been spoken. If you’re here on this list, it’s because you’re a friend, and when I make my cuts, you’ll know exactly why I did it. I don’t play mind games with my friends, and if you know me enough to know that, then let this serve as nothing more than a reminder.

If you feel otherwise, or you’ve got a problem with me, then use the comment function below to tell me so, and we’ll deal with it head-on. They’re screened, just in case you need privacy. But don’t follow the advice of venting and then never discussing it again… how exactly does that solve the problem?

I don’t like that meme, because nothing good can come of it. But if someone feels they need to do it, good for them.

Now, as for you… I’m pretty sure I have a problem with you, but I can’t remember exactly what it is. 😉

Ah, you stole my thunder. I was just to write a journal entry about that.

    • jetblack on December 9, 2005 at 20:44

    Dude, write it, anyway 🙂

    • sdragon on December 9, 2005 at 20:45

    Well said. 🙂

    • jetblack on December 9, 2005 at 20:45

I agree nothing good can come of it… but to me, it smacked of someone being able to tell the truth without fear of reprisal, and well, if we were really friends it wouldn’t be necessary to do that… y’know? It’s like saying, “I hate you, but please still like me, okay?”

As for your problem… when you do remember, you’ll know where to find me 🙂

    • jetblack on December 9, 2005 at 20:49

Thanks. And hey! 🙂 I would really like your new address so I can send you a christmas card this year. I’m in the middle of compiling addresses right now, so if you could send it to my addy, I’d love to send one to you this year. 🙂

    (since this is screened)

I’ll assume you’re at the same addy.

yes, you put this in great words. if i have a problem with someone, i think as my FRIEND they have a right to know so it can be alleviated and it won’t interfere with our friendship. likewise, i’d want someone to do the same for me. regardless of it’s magnitude, when you have a problem it has an effect on the relationship and it can grow to be worse.

and what’s sad is i can read them and figure out what’s directed towards me and it’s like, wow, backstab. maybe i should make my journal private.

I found the meme useful for me, I’m one of those people who tries to be nice to everyone. Even if they’re not deserving of it. I also don’t open up easily.

I understand the reasoning behind you and choosing to do yours this way; it’s different personalities, however. Mine doesn’t let me say these things outloud.

    • jetblack on December 9, 2005 at 21:15

I can totally empathize with trying to be nice to everyone, but don’t you think that being less than truthful with your friends means they’re not really your friends in the first place? In my personal opinion, I value the meaning of friends by always speaking plainly and honestly with them to make sure they know they can always depend on me to treat them as such. To me, if I don’t, it means I don’t respect them at all… and that also means that they’re not really my friend. Of course, I’ll tell them that outright, but it seems to me that I would treat my friends in the same manner that I would want to be treated.

I agree with Oscar Wilde who once wrote, “True friends stab you in the front.” To do otherwise belies the so-called friendship.

This meme undermines my friendships, and rather than try to discern which one of the comments people post is about me, I choose to do this, instead. If people don’t like me, I’d rather they just say it up front and screw being nice… just don’t waste my time by pretending to be my friend when you carry a certain amount of duplicity.

I’m speaking in a general sense and not specifically singling you out. I read through your ten things and I don’t think any of them were written with me in mind, because none of them seemed to fit.

If I’m wrong, let me know.

“True friends stab you in the front.” — Oscar Wilde

I know we’ve had our long chats on AIM before, so you and I have always been on the level. I miss chatting with you, though. 🙁

    • jetblack on December 9, 2005 at 21:19

I’ve actually moved, but I still get mail at the old addy, so use it for now. 🙂

    • backroomdealer on December 9, 2005 at 21:29

    You’re not on the list.

And most of mine were positives, which I suppose is a good thing. I felt bad about writing the two or three that were negaitves.

Hell, maybe I’ll delete it. It’s what I usually do anyway.

    • leethaithbetht on December 9, 2005 at 21:30

We should get you your own AANCW. She’ll cure you of that right quick. I used to be shy about saying things to people, but now I’m all:

But that’s just me. And you should express yourself however you feel most comfortable doing so. I WUV YOU

    • miizznena on December 9, 2005 at 21:56

well, maybe you don’t have my AIM name out here? It’s just Philthy Offering, no 5. although honestly, i’m not on much because i just have too much to do.

but yes, i miss chatting as well =\ we’ll have to change that. and btw, great quote.

Sometimes people won’t listen to you no matter what you say. Maybe this meme is good for the writer and the writer only. Everyone has their reasons for doing it or not, and I don’t think anyone owes anyone an explanation.

    • lady_melinda on December 10, 2005 at 03:52

I used mine as less of a forum to say things to friends per se as to say thinks that I’ve randomly thought and could not say for various reasons. There are statements on my list about people that do not know I exist, that are family (honesty can be awkward with family), and those that I have feelings or urges that cannot be expressed due to situationaly issues, etc.

I respect that you have left nothing unsaid in your life. It speaks to your integrity, and is a postive in my mind. But just as you might not tell your wife’s best friend you think she’s hot, I can’t tell certain people the odd random thoughts I have about them from time to time.

Oh well, I guess it’s to each his own. 🙂

I have a bone to pick with you…

…we never get to hang out anymore. I know you’re busy and all, but we need to like have dinner and watch as you tickle the crap outta Cheuk. We miss you man!

    Hope everything’s going well.

    • jetblack on December 10, 2005 at 13:12

Dude, I right here next to State 😛 Where are you at, these days?

    • richlikesmaids on December 10, 2005 at 18:03

I’m close by in Daly City now. I’m literally 5 minutes from Marc’s house.

    • jetblack on December 10, 2005 at 18:29

So, WTF, man? You need to like figure out a time when people can come over and say hi and stuff.

    • anki on December 12, 2005 at 01:48

I made the cut! I think. I still see your stuff anyway, so I guess so.

The above meme is rather interesting, isn’t it? My first thought on seeing it was “Dude, WTF, is this an invitation to argument or what?” Well, actually, that was my second thought. My first one was “Let’s see what he said about me.” Which should tell you something.

But in any case, since commenting isn’t disabled on this one, I can go right ahead and say what I want to. I’ve had a lot of problems with you, from the way you enter relationships all the way through to how arrogant you are. I can’t remember a time when I ever did /not/ say precisely what I thought to you though, so yeah. We’re on the level, eh?

Mail me at morgaine @ though, there’s something I need to discuss with you.

    Ja ne!
    Numbah One.
